Frequently Asked Questions

1. Auto‑Tags & Tags
  • Can you show how to set up an auto‑tag?

Auto‑tags are driven by Lists. You create a List that defines the criteria (e.g. “Active Donors”), then apply it as an auto‑tag rule. Donorfy updates the tag automatically overnight.
    Guide: Auto‑Tagging

  • Is there a pre‑built list of auto‑tags to switch on?

No. You build auto‑tags based on the data you need. Start with a small set (e.g. Active Donor, Lapsed Donor, Major Donor) and expand over time.

  • If I create a new tag in Donorfy, does it sync automatically to Mailchimp?

Not automatically. You’ll need to create the same tag in Mailchimp and then update the tag mappings in Donorfy so the next sync applies them correctly.

  • How do segments “know” which people to pull in—are they based on tags?

Segments are based on Lists, not tags. If a List uses tags as part of its filtering, then those tags influence segment membership—but the segment logic itself always comes from the List.

  • Is there a field like “Linked RPI” in a constituent list?

No. Use an RPI List and apply tags or additional criteria as needed.

2. Campaigns & Segmentation
  • If I make a campaign inactive, will income from existing Direct Debits still be added to it?
Yes. Inactive campaigns still receive income from RPIs created under them.
  • Can campaigns have more than one campaign tag?

Yes, you can add multiple tags to any campaign.
    Guide: Tagging Campaigns

  • Can I report on income by segment?

Yes. When you download campaign segments, you can add an activity (which captures the segment code). For gift‑level reporting, you may also export a transaction list and analyse in Excel if needed.

  • How do I keep segments distinct and in priority when syncing to Mailchimp?

Create a tag for each segment in Donorfy, map them to Mailchimp, then use those tags to build segments in Mailchimp.

  • Do I need to sync all Lists to Mailchimp/Dotdigital?

No. You only sync your Constituent List—typically one list containing all contacts eligible for email.
    Guide: Lists Overview

3. Email & Marketing Integrations
  • Do you integrate with Constant Contact?
No. Donorfy integrates with Mailchimp and Dotdigital only.

Donorfy Academy courses for both platforms are available:
    Mailchimp
    Dotdigital
  • How do I build a welcome journey like the “New Donor Welcome Journey”?

Build an automation journey in Mailchimp and use a Donorfy Trigger to apply a tag that enrols supporters into it.
    Guide: Mailchimp Course

4. Forms, Payments & Address Lookups
  • Is the address lookup built into Donorfy Forms?
The address lookup used in the demo is Loqate, which is a paid Donorfy integration—not built in by default.
    More info here
  • How do I embed a Donorfy Donation Form so it doesn’t open in a new tab?

Set the form to not be a standalone page, then use the embed code to place it within your website via an iframe.
    Guide: Forms Overview

  • What if donations come from different currencies?

You must create a separate form for each currency. Donorfy does not allow currency selection within a single form. However, multi-currency is now built into Donorfy.
Guide: Using Donorfy with multiple currencies

  • Is the “opt‑out vs opt‑in” consent wording editable on forms?
  • Are auto thank‑yous triggered by forms or via Triggers?

Forms can send a basic automated thank‑you, but Triggers offer more flexibility (letters, personalised messages, conditions).
    Guide: Triggers

  • Does embedding and segmentation logic work on Forms as well as Web Widgets?

Yes—Forms support the same behavioural tagging and Trigger logic.

5. Gift Aid
  • Does Donorfy really submit Gift Aid claims automatically to HMRC?
Yes, once the Gift Aid integration is set up correctly.

  • Does Donorfy support the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS)?
6. Data Quality & Integrations
  • Who handles data cleansing?

Donorfy partners with Data8 for data cleaning, address validation, gone‑away and deceased suppression.
    More info available here.

  • Is there going to be an integration with Access Raise (Access Websites)?

Yes—an integration with Access Raise is in development and due to be released soon.

7. File Uploader
8. Acknowledgements & Letters
  • Can I send letters via the Acknowledgements area?
Yes—the Acknowledgements area supports printed letters as well as email acknowledgements.
    Guide Here.
9. Gift Aid & Merge Fields
  • Do Word documents generated by Triggers support IF statements (e.g. Gift Aid logic)?

No, but you could set up two Triggers to handle this (i.e. one for those who already have a Gift Aid Declaration, and one for those who need one).
